Courses & Workshops

Specialist-led education designed to help veterinary professionals think clearly, prioritise effectively, and work confidently when clinical pressure is high. Sessions are practical, case-based, and tailored to the experience of the participating team.

Ready Talks

One-hour live webinars

Ready Talks are focused, clinically relevant webinars for veterinary hospitals, professional groups, and veterinary organisations. Each webinar includes approximately 50 minutes of teaching followed by time for questions and discussion. Sessions can be delivered privately to an individual veterinary organisation or as part of a larger education program.

The First Ten Minutes of the Trauma Patient

Duration60 minutes

Best suited to

General-practice veterinarians, emergency veterinarians, interns and veterinary nurses working with emergency patients

The early management of trauma can feel chaotic, particularly when several injuries compete for attention. This webinar provides a structured approach to recognising and treating the problems most likely to cause preventable deterioration or death.

Participants will learn how to

→Prepare the team before the patient arrives
→Conduct a rapid and systematic primary survey
→Prioritise immediate interventions
→Recognise haemorrhage, thoracic injury and deteriorating perfusion
→Decide what must be done now and what can safely wait

Shock Without Guesswork

Duration60 minutes

Best suited to

General-practice veterinarians, emergency veterinarians, interns, and registrars

Shock is not a single diagnosis, and blood pressure alone does not tell us whether tissue perfusion is adequate. This webinar gives clinicians a practical framework for recognising, classifying, and treating shock while avoiding reflexive or excessive fluid administration.

Participants will learn how to

→Recognise overt and occult shock
→Distinguish likely causes of impaired perfusion
→Select appropriate fluids, blood products, vasopressors, or inotropes
→Identify useful treatment endpoints
→Reassess response and recognise when the initial plan is not working

Respiratory Distress: Treat Before You Diagnose

Duration60 minutes

Best suited to

Veterinarians and veterinary nurses in general practice, urgent care, and emergency hospitals

The distressed respiratory patient rarely tolerates a slow or highly diagnostic approach. This webinar focuses on rapid localisation, low-stress assessment and the immediate treatments that can be provided before a definitive diagnosis is available.

Participants will learn how to

→Recognise clinically important respiratory patterns
→Localise disease to the upper airway, lower airway, pulmonary parenchyma or pleural space
→Select an appropriate oxygen-delivery method
→Recognise when thoracocentesis or airway intervention may be required
→Identify failure of initial respiratory support and escalate treatment

Acid–Base Without Tears

Duration60 minutes

Best suited to

General-practice veterinarians, emergency veterinarians, interns, residents, and veterinary nurses with an interest in advanced monitoring

Blood-gas and acid–base results can provide valuable information, but only when clinicians can translate the numbers into a useful treatment plan. This webinar teaches a repeatable and clinically focused approach to interpreting blood gases.

Participants will learn how to

→Interpret pH, carbon dioxide and bicarbonate systematically
→Differentiate respiratory and metabolic disorders
→Recognise mixed acid–base disturbances
→Assess oxygenation and ventilation
→Decide which abnormalities require treatment and which reflect the underlying disease

Why Good Clinicians Make Mistakes

Duration60 minutes

Best suited to

Veterinarians, veterinary nurses, clinical leaders, hospital managers, and mixed clinical teams

Veterinary errors are rarely explained by a simple lack of knowledge. Interruptions, cognitive overload, task fixation, communication failures, and poorly designed systems can all affect clinical performance. This webinar introduces the practical application of human-factors principles within veterinary emergency practice.

Participants will learn how to

→Recognise common cognitive and communication traps
→Understand how workload and environmental factors affect performance
→Reduce task fixation and loss of situational awareness
→Use clear role allocation and closed-loop communication
→Create systems that make the safest action easier to perform

How to Run an M&M Meeting That Improves Care

Duration60 minutes

Best suited to

Clinical directors, emergency and critical care specialists, senior veterinarians, nurse leaders, and hospital managers

Morbidity and mortality meetings can become unstructured case discussions, defensive reviews, or exercises in hindsight. This webinar explains how to create an M&M process that supports learning, accountability, and measurable improvement.

Participants will learn how to

→Select appropriate cases for review
→Separate an adverse outcome from the quality of the care provided
→Identify clinical and system contributors
→Facilitate psychologically safe but rigorous discussion
→Develop practical actions and ensure that recommendations are followed up
